Little Smiles

Just as you have a special doctor for your child—a pediatrician—you may want to consider a special dentist for your child—a pediatric dentist. Your pediatrician has spent years studying about how to care for children's bodies. A child's body is not the same as an adult's. They need to be treated differently.

The same is true of your child's teeth—they aren't the same as yours. Your child may have baby teeth which are emerging, a full set of baby teeth, or a set of mixed baby/permanent teeth. Each of these situations is unique. And a pediatric dentist has spent years learning about the best practices for working with little ones and their growing teeth. Learn more about what we have to offer little smiles at Dr. Beanca Chu Children's Dentistry.

A Wealth of Experience

Dr. Chu has been leading our practice for 31 years! She has been lucky enough to treat 2nd and 3rd generation kids whose parents and grandparents came to the practice when they were young. Trips to the dentist can be intimidating for little ones. They don't always know what to expect, and the tools and procedures can be frightening. Our goal is to make a trip to the dentist fun and comfortable. We want your child to look forward to coming to visit!

Dr Chu, Dr. Yu, and the rest of our team have years of experience in working with kids. We know the preventative measures that should be taken to prevent problems for growing teeth. If there are problems that crop up—be they big or small—we know what to do to minimize them or eliminate them completely.

Many kids have special needs that need to be considered. Dr. Chu is well-prepared with experience at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey. No matter what your child's situation, our team will come up with a plan to treat them. At Dr. Beanca's, we keep up with all the latest in dental technology. We want to make sure the treatments we offer are up to date. Your child's teeth deserve nothing less.

An Atmosphere of Comfort

We strive to make our office as welcoming as we can. Our surfing décor is inviting and fun. Stuffed animals are all around to make sure little ones feel at home. And what could be better than TVs mounted above our dental chairs? Sometimes a little video distraction can help a treatment move right along. Before we do our first cleaning, we want to get to know your child. At your first visit to our office, we'll ask for details of their medical and dental history. We'll take x-rays to look at how your child's teeth are doing (and we'll use these down the road for the sake of comparison). Together, we'll create a treatment plan designed to meet all your child's needs.

At your child's second visit, one of our highly-trained staff will clean and polish your child's teeth before Dr. Chu does an exam. She will be searching for early signs of tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease. With any luck, she won't find any! It's important that your child feel like they are a part of the process, even if big decisions have to be made by an adult. That's why we make sure to allow them to choose the flavor of dental paste we use. And when the cleaning is over? Your child can choose a sticker or a small toy as a reward for a job well done.

Where to Start…

At Dr. Beanca Chu Children's Dentistry, we recommend you bring your child to us within six months of their first teeth emerging or around their first birthday—whichever comes first. In addition to checking your child's teeth and gums, we can offer lots of tips for the best ways to care for your child's teeth at home. Decay can happen even in brand new baby teeth, so we want to make sure you know all about how to clean your baby's gums and brush any teeth they have.

As your child grows older we can go over proper brushing and flossing techniques with both you and your child. Sometimes, hearing the directions from a non-parent is just what it takes to get a child on track. We can also go over other healthy dental practices such as the best foods to eat (and the ones to avoid) and what to do if there are any dental emergencies. (We handle those in our office, too. Just call our emergency number and let us know what the problem is.)

Are you concerned your child may need braces? If they do, our own Dr. Yu can advise you about the best way to go about straightening their teeth. No need to travel to another practice to have this done—it's all done right at Dr. Beanca Chu Children's Dentistry.

Special Services

Our goal is to help your child have the best and brightest smile they can. To that end, we provide some special services you might not find at other pediatric dental practices. Laser dentistry is offered at our practice. Procedures done via laser offer many benefits. Often, no anesthesia is needed. Treatments are much more comfortable—a big plus for kids. There is less chance of bacterial infection with laser treatment. Cavities can be fixed with hard tissue laser dentistry, making for an easier procedure for little ones who develop tooth decay.

We also offer sedation dentistry. If your child requires a more intensive procedure, such as a root canal or an extraction, we can offer sedation. There are different levels of sedation, but all of them can help relieve fear during treatment and, in many cases, your child will have no memory of anything being done. If your child is stressed by the idea of a dental procedure, sedation can help.

Finally, we offer digital x-rays at Dr. Beanca Chu Children's Dentistry. We know you would prefer your child to be exposed to as little radiation as possible. Digital x-rays can reduce your child's exposure by up to 80% when compared to traditional x-rays. Digital x-rays are more comfortable (no biting down on hard film), faster (less time for check-ups), and environmentally friendly (no harmful chemicals needed to develop). Digital x-rays also offer a more in-depth look at your child's teeth, helpful for making sure they're healthy.
