Who We Are

We have been in the business of providing pediatric dental care in the Huntington Beach Area for 45 years! Dr. Chu took over the business 31 years ago and is still going strong today. Our mission is to provide a fun, loving, and comfortable place for children to have all their dental needs met. We love educating children of all ages—and their parents—on the best dental hygiene practices to prevent cavities and other dental problems.

We believe that each child who visits our office is unique and has individual needs. As a team, we will work with you to ensure that your child's particular needs are addressed. Visiting the dentist can be scary. We want to help each of our patients to have a positive experience. To this end, we have an office that is a happy, child-friendly space.

From ceiling-mounted TVs playing movies right above the dental chair to yummy cleaning pastes to stuffed animals hanging out in the office, we hope to create a fun atmosphere for your child's dental treatment. Your child will even get to pick out a sticker or a toy when their appointment is done.

What We Do

We know how important it is for your child to have consistency in their health care providers. At Dr. Beanca Chu’s Children’s Dentistry, we're proud to offer a wide array of services, from dental cleanings to orthodontics. Your child need not shift from one dentist to another for different treatments. Our office caters to young children, teenagers, and children who may have special needs.

Experts recommend that a baby visit the dentist within six months of getting their first tooth. This is usually around your child's first birthday. We work hard to make that first visit as comfortable and meaningful as possible, setting your child up for dental success for life. From the beginning, we will work with you and your child to engage in preventative dental care. We provide a variety of suggestions for the best ways to introduce toothbrushes and toothpaste. We can also demonstrate the best techniques for brushing and flossing.

As your child grows, dental visits should occur once every six months. Digital x-rays will be taken periodically to check on the health of your child's teeth, gums, and jaw. During their bi-annual cleaning, our dental hygienist will remove plaque, bacteria, and tartar build-up from your child's teeth. Finally, at each check-up, an examination will be performed to check for cavities, abnormalities, and any signs of gum disease. In the early years, we will track how your child's baby teeth are coming in. As your child grows, we will be able to track their incoming permanent teeth. If any problems present themselves, we will create a plan to solve the issue.

Children with special needs need special care - our office is well-prepared to handle children who may require accommodations. We will work with you—and any member of your child's health care team—to create a plan so your child can get the dental care they need.

When your child reaches age seven, a pediatric dentist will take steps to determine whether or not they will require orthodontics. If they do, many pediatric dentists will recommend a visit to an outside orthodontist. At our practice, there's no need to go elsewhere. Dr. Shawn Yu provides full orthodontic care.

Whether you choose traditional braces or Invisalign® (or Invisalign Teen®), you are in good hands with Dr. Yu. He will see your child through all the stages of teeth straightening—installation, maintenance, and removal. He can even personalize your child's braces, offering brackets made from a variety of materials and appliances in an array of colors.

Special Services

A trip to the dentist can produce anxiety, especially in children. Some children have difficulty sitting still for a dental procedure. To ease that anxiety and restlessness, we offer pediatric sedation. Using nitrous oxide or oral/IV medication, your child's dental treatment can be performed while they are in a state of relaxation. Our sedation techniques will not put your child to sleep. They will be awake and able to follow directions throughout. They will have a pain-free visit—and may not even remember having anything done.

At Dr. Beanca Chu’s Children’s Dentistry, we use lasers to perform a wide variety of treatments. We use hard tissue laser dentistry to find cavities, fill cavities, and improve teeth sensitivity. We also use soft tissue laser dentistry to perform gum surgery and make muscle attachment improvements. Other laser dentistry treatments include the removal of benign oral tumors, the whitening of teeth, and the alleviation of sleep apnea. There is less pain and swelling associated with laser dentistry, and there is less risk of damage to surrounding areas of the mouth.

We are available to help out with dental emergencies. Perhaps your child has taken a fall and cracked a tooth or, worse, lost a tooth. Just give our office a call, and we can take a look at your child right away.
